If you’re like me, then you love to read books. These days you’ll find me devouring books over Audible on my iPhone.

Are you a voracious reader, too?! Then you’re in good company because most successful entrepreneurs are known to read LOTS of books that encourage education, improvement, and business success.

One of my latest “reads” has a deceptive title because it doesn’t sound like a business book, but it is: “The Power of Broke” by Daymond John. (You’ve probably heard of him as one of the sharks on ABC’s Shark Tank.) Ironically, the “BROKE” he writes about is about your mindset, not your bank account.

Throughout the book, Daymond repeats his life mantra, “Rise and Grind.” But I must confess that I didn’t like the word ‘grind’ because grinding is such a prevalent and stressful way to do business these days. (Honestly, the only thing I feel like grinding most mornings are coffee beans. Ha!)

What I realized as I continued listening to his book is that it is about getting things done and taking your next steps with purpose. It is about rising and shining. This concept is no different than what I ask my coaching clients to do in their personal and professional lives. (It is what I choose to do every day, too.)

You may be wondering how to rise and shine without grinding. (I’m glad you asked.)

The good news is that you’re already equipped with what you need to take your next steps with purpose. (See 2 Tim. 3:17 NIV)

Start by giving gratitude for everything you’re thankful for in each of the core areas of your life: emotional, spiritual, health, financial, professional, and relationships. (It may help you to make a list and write everything down.)

Then ask God to help you evaluate each of the same core areas. Do you need to:

  • Move things forward in one or more of them?
  • Set specific goals?
  • Develop a plan or roadmap to follow?

If you’re seeing barriers or stumbling blocks, you’ll want to pay more attention to what’s happening internally than externally.

There’s always hope and opportunity to move you forward in every area of your life. You just need to be intentional to look for it by rising and shining.

Are there areas you uncovered that you need to work on? Or maybe you simply need encouragement to rise and shine. Whatever the case may be, I’d love to be your cheerleader. Hit reply and let me know.

Here’s to getting things done with purpose.
