How are you showing up?

10 years ago, when I started my company, I was told »» you need to get out and network to meet more people and grow your business!

I knew the importance and value of expanding my circle of influence, but I struggled with it.

Do you ever show up at networking events, parties, conferences, etc. for business and feel uncomfortable? out of place? or maybe even a little "judged" by others around you?

IF so, I can relate.

For me, those feelings were more about me, my insecurities and lack of clarity than the environment I was in or the people I was connecting with. I wasn't confident or clear about many things in my business. Things like:

  • Target Market (I would work with anyone who was breathing! ha!)
  • Messaging (vision + mission statement? core values? problems I solved? I had no clue!)
  • Pricing and Product/Services (I was all over the board!)
  • Processes/Systems (flying by the seat of my pants, for sure!)

To be completely honest. Back then, I looked confident on the outside, but inside, I was scared and clueless. The phrase "fake it 'til you make it" described me! GROSS!

Fast forward about 7 years to May 2016. I decided to create a space for like-minded women business owners, entrepreneurs, and sales professionals. A safe place for women to show up, come as they are, be renewed, encouraged, fulfilled, inspired, nurtured, and equipped to take their next steps with purpose -- personally, professionally, and in their faith!

No "fake it 'til you make it"
No judgement

Ask yourself these 3 questions

It's SO easy to go through life on auto pilot. Most of us have extremely full plates and wear a lot of hats. But, from time to time, it's important to turn the mirror around and "check-in" with ourselves, personally + professional, to assess how things are going.

Agree?

Additionally, when we invest our time, money, and energy into learning, attending events, conferences, or networking -- we have the opportunity to get a great return on our investment if we discover what action we need to take based on what we've learned or experienced.

Not taking appropriate action is simply a waste. But we do it, unintentionally -- because we just don't have an easy to implement plan to do otherwise, or it can be overwhelming.

Several years ago, I started to ask myself 3 simple questions to help me with this. These 3 questions gave me clarity and to take action -- to keep moving towards my goals and dreams, and also helped me see what I could celebrate! I know they will do the same for YOU!

The 3 questions are:

  1. What will I start doing? (what action do I need to take, improve on)
  2. What will I stop doing? (what is not serving me well)
  3. What will I continue doing? (where am I winning, what's going right)

Do you know your next step?

There's this old saying, "No one can hit their target with their eyes closed. To reach a great height, a person needs to have great depth. Aim for the moon, if you miss, you may hit a star. You can't hit a target if you don't know what it is."

I all areas of our lives, it's important to know where we area headed, what our goals are, what we are working toward, right?

The same is true in our businesses. Not only do we need to set goals to reach as far as revenue or products to sell or clients to serve, we need to have a clear mapped out strategy of the path we want to lead our potential clients or customers to take. I call this the "free to fee journey" -- some people call it the sales funnel.

Whatever you want to call it, every business owner, entrepreneur, and sales professional needs to have a clearly defined strategy mapped out to lead prospects to a point to make a decision »» to buy or not to buy.

There are 7 stages of the "free to fee journey" or Perfect Customer Lifecycle:

  1. ATTRACT LEADS
    You can attract leads through events, advertising, networking, etc. You can drive traffic to your website with great content like webinars, reports, podcasts, case studies, and blog posts.
  2. CAPTURE LEADS
    It's one thing to attract leads, you have to capture them! Encourage leads to sign up or opt-in to receive your content. You need to have a place to do this on your website or a strategy to do this in-person or at events.
  3. NURTURE PROSPECTS
    Follow-UP! This is the most important stage of your funnel. Create a consistent, valuable nurture campaign that works for you. Using automation as much as possible.
  4. CONVERT SALES
    Turn "browsers" into buyers with through meaningful conversations and effective e-commerce tools, and a lead management strategy.
  5. DELIVER & BLESS THEIR SOCKS OFF
    Do what you say you're going to do and MORE! Deliver on what was promised. Then go above and beyond to really wow your customers.
  6. ADD-ON & UPSELL
    It's not one and done! Develop a long-term upsell strategy to help grow recurring revenue over time with your current customers who already love you!
  7. GET REFERRALS
    Encourage + ask for referrals with a great customer and partner referral program.

What does your "free to fee journey" look like in your business?

There's no judgement here, all grace! If your "sales funnel" is missing the mark, identify what needs attention and start working on it this week! Take it one step at a time and make improvements.

You Are Worth Every Penny

  • FOCUS on the wrong thing, they are too focused on selling features, process, and "how-to" instead of the benefits or the outcome.

What I suggest is, develop a strategic plan on how to communicate the solutions your products and services offer to the problems your target market has, that are keeping them up at night, so pricing isn't the obstacle. YOU are the solution they are praying for!

3 Questions to ask in every meeting

This statement »» They Don't Care How Much You Know Until They Know How Much You Care «« is SO relevant to all of us who are looking to take our businesses to the next level.

Not only is it good for customer retention, a reminder to nurture our current clients to check in and follow-up, it's also powerful for us to remember this as we are connecting with prospects and new potential clients.

Our primary focus, in a business development "sales" roll, is to ask great questions! We need to get really really good at doing this to uncover a felt need where our product and service could be offered up as a solution.

3 questions to ask in every meeting or conversation, to get the ball rolling are:

  1. How are you?
  2. What are you working on, or what is a current struggle?
  3. How can I help?

Then listen.

These are strong, open-ended questions, that get your target market talking about themselves -- but more importantly they see how much you care and are truly interested in learning about them, hearing what they need, and your desire to help.

BUT...you MUST LISTEN (we were given 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason! ha)

People buy from people and brands that they know, like, and trust «« focus on building that! Because strong relationships lead to increased revenue. period.

You will never regret investing time into having meaningful conversations with as many people you can as often as you can -- whether 1 to 1 or 1 to many!
