Powerful Words: RENEW

In 7 weeks — YES…7 weeks — we will be hosting the first annual Refine Conference for women in Minneapolis, MN. {September 21 & 22}  A few weeks ago, I announced this event and shared a glimpse into the Keeping it Personal journey — since then I’ve been asked this question by several people, “What’s the story, the motivation, behind The REFINE Conference?”

The honest too-much-information {TMI} answer is …while I was taking a shower in a hotel room, in Charleston, SC, October 2010 — God planted the seed in my heart.  I have a vivid memory of this moment because I it was one more thing on my “plate” that I didn’t want to pursue, I didn’t feel equipped to pull off, and…

…I didn’t have time.

From that day, the thoughts of “a conference” never left my mind.  They were watered, explored, talked about with others, and within a year — a name emerged: Refine.  With the name, the tagline, the mission, followed: come as you are, take your next steps with purpose.

The mission could be accomplished through focusing on the 6 areas of personal perspective: emotional. spiritual. health & wellness. relationships. financial. professional. — and through providing an environment where each woman who attends would walk away feeling the impact of –> R. E. F. I. N. E.

Not only is refine a power word by itself — for the conference, it’s an acronym — made up of 6 power words.  Starting today, and over the next 5 Mondays — I’m going to unpack each word.  Whether you plan to attend The Refine Conference, or not {I hope you DO!!} I believe you will enjoy the journey unpacking the word REFINE through words…

R is for: RENEW

What a gift this word offers us.  It’s a second chance, or a third, or a fourth — there is opportunity for all of us to revive or reestablish ourselves, our situation, our relationships, our careers, our finances.  It’s never too late to become what you might have been!  It’s never too late to begin again, to restore or replenish.

One of the definitions of renew is to be restored to a former state; become new or as if new again.  I love this!  Become new…this is a verb that requires action.  It also means that it is fluid and on-going.  There is no end to our renewal process.  For the past 4 years I’ve been on a “renew” journey.  I pursue healing and restoration.  It doesn’t happen without my willingness to embrace the process — and it’s not always easy — but the rewards are priceless.

The only way that I’ve found to pursue “renewal” is through changing my thoughts and my perspective on how I view things.

“…be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

There is no limit to our becoming.  God can make all things new.  There is nothing too “broken” that He cannot fix.  Renewal comes as we learn, grow…

…forgive, share, and accept.

Question:  Do you believe this word applies to you? Are there areas in your life in need of renewal?  If so, what action can you take to pursue it?  Share you comment by clicking here

  1. Wanda says:

This looks like it was custom created just for me. What a wonderful conference. I need a big renew!

    1. Teri says:

It WAS!! Created for you…and other women who need to be nurtured! I hope you choose to come…would LOVE to meet YOU! =)

  2. Susan says:

I am in terrible need of Renew!! Really long story short … I am having difficulty accepting that the standards I set for myself are not the same standards others in my job share or adhere to … consequently I am continually disappointed at the lack of compassion and concern for those to whom we provide services. It makes life at the office very, very difficult!

    1. Teri says:

Susan…thank YOU for sharing this — whispering a prayer for you this morning. Not sure of the “whole” situation, but keep taking the high road…it’s rough, exhausting, and challenging going against the grain. If you’re confident you’re doing what’s right — keep on, keeping on and hide this word in your heart –> “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
