Powerful Words: FULFILL

This is our 3rd week into unpacking the word REFINE.  I started with “WHY I’m doing this” and the first word Renew, then we moved to the second word Encourage and now…

F is for: FULFILL

We give of ourselves everywhere!  Yes…we give.  When we do this, we empty out ourselves.  Take a quick minute to think of all those places YOU pour out — a little OR a lot — of who you are…

…and what you have.

Whether it’s time spent with others, doing daily tasks, living out our rolls with the many hats we wear, materially, emotionally, physically, relationships, listening to those around us, care-taking, problem solving, or pouring out our words…

…we give.

The question we must ask is this:  Are we giving from what OVERFLOWS out of us, our “cup”?  Or are we giving from our “cup”?

There’s a BIG difference.

When we give from our cup we can get overwhelmed and burnt out.  We can experience frustration and anger — also resentment due to wrong motives.  When we give from our cup, we are relying on our own strength…

…we grow weary.

But when we give from our overflow, there is energy and life sown into our work.  We are often more prepared and equipped to endure the journey.  When we are filled or supplied with in great measure there is overflow to pass from one place or part to another.  Through this there is strength. effectiveness. endurance. liveliness.

Many people say, “It’s better to give than to receive.” — BUT it is not BETTER to give than to receive, the Word says, “…It is more BLESSED to give than to receive.” {Acts 20:35}   SO, YES…it is GREAT to give, but it is not better.  We must remember the importance of receiving and nurturing…

…our lives.  our hearts.  our souls.

We must remember, it is our individual responsibility to ensure we are implementing practices into our lives that FILL. US. UP.

Fulfilling is a continual-process, we will always be developing to our full potential.  There are many tools available for us to find this FULFILLment.

For me, I find great fulfillment through prayer and meditation.  I read the Word, and I just — read, a lot to gain new perspective and keep filling my mind.  I exercise to fuel my body physically.  I connect with others, which energizes me and fills my cup.  I attend conferences to learn and listen to a variety of speakers. Also, I REST…this can be the most important tool for me at times — REST. Quiet moments. Quality alone time.

I can tell when I’m out of balance; attempting to give from an empty cup.  It’s not pretty and I’m prompted to stop neglecting my needs.  The benefits of “receiving” allow me to give…

…give from the overflow.

Question:  Does your “giving” come from an empty cup? or one that is overflowing?  What have you implemented to keep “your-cup-full”?  Share your comment by clicking here.
