Powerful Words: ENCOURAGE

Last week I started to unpack the word …refine.  If you missed that post or want to understand WHY I’m doing this, GO –> here — R is for: RENEW.

E is for: ENCOURAGE

We can be the giver and recipient of encouragement.  There are times when need a little “buttering-up” to lift us onwards and upwards.  No matter which side we happen to be on, encouragement…

  • cultivates growth and learning — it’s like sunlight to our spirit
  • empowers us, it gives us what we need to take that next step
  • can rise up a saddened and wounded soul

We can encourage others in many ways.  Through:

the whisper of one word, or a simple smile.
comforting and consoling, or cheering from the sidelines.
approval and praise, or by offering assistance.
sharing a fresh new perspective, or taking an interest in what others are thinking and doing.

When we encourage, we breath life — we shine our light.

There is one catch with this powerful word, we cannot always rely on others to be our source of encouragement…

…we must be able to offer it to ourselves.

That’s right.  We will not always be in a position where we have others around us to cheer-us-on.  Equipping ourselves with resources to “fuel our own fire” is crucial.

Question:  Who is the biggest encourager in your life?  What do you do to encourage yourself?  Share your comment by clicking here.

My biggest encourager is my husband — he is totally unflappable! He always knows exactly the right things to say to cause me to look inside! When I need encouragement, I slip on my tenny runners, grab my phone w/earpods (K-LOVE station), and hit the concrete — singing and talking to myself all along my route!

Susan — I share the SAME things!! My husband is my biggest cheerleaders — I can always count on him to speak truth into my life in a way that fuels my fire. MUSIC also lifts-me-UP! I’m so grateful for lyrics that capture my heart and lift me up at the perfect time. Thank YOU for sharing — keep shining your light! =)
