I used to think you had to be special for God to use you, but now I think you simply need to say yes. – Bob Goff
I had originally heard of Bob Goff through Donald Miller. The way Donald described him, Bob seemed larger than life. I loved the things that he was doing. I loved how he lived his life with such passion.
And my initial reaction was to be irritated…
…irritated with myself.
- Why can’t I be like that?
- Why didn’t I make different choices so that I could have the time and money to fly off to help someone?
- Why didn’t I think of that?
- What’s wrong with me?
But then I read Bob’s book, Love Does. It was like having a conversation with a dear friend. He was speaking directly to me. He was answering all of those questions I had. I felt like he was saying, “I used to feel like that too. But then I did something about it.”
I have always felt better when I do something rather than just talk about it. How many times have we said we were going to do something great, and then life got in the way?
…I don’t want to live like that anymore.
Over the last few years, I have learned how saying Yes to God will change your life. I used to fight God over and over for control. He wanted control of my life, but I wouldn’t let go. When I finally said yes, I also very clearly felt Him saying that He can use me. He has plans for me. And He won’t always do it in a huge way like we would expect. Sometimes He wants us to learn to take tiny steps first.
I think that God wants to use ordinary people.
I believe that He wants you.
He wants me.
He wants us to say Yes so that He can direct our paths.
And when we do, He will use us in ways that we could never imagine on our own. We just have to be willing to say yes.
