What Mesmerizes Me

My husband {the awesome man that he is} came home last week with a surprise for me.  A new Iphone 4…S! I have had the same phone for about the last five years and honestly he was getting tired of not being able to reach me because I would charge my cell phone overnight and the battery would last about two hours.

The new phone was a necessity. Really it was. I didn’t necessarily need an Iphone 4S, but I will not be the wife that does not accept a sweet thoughtful gift from her husband…

…that would be a SHAME!

So, after a week of it sitting in the box, I finally opened it. I couldn’t open it before because I had several speaking engagements I was working on and I did not want to be distracted. Smart move on my part. When I finally opened it, activated it, and started using it, I was mesmerized. And. still. am.

Most of my fondness for the phone comes from my relationship with my new found friend, Siri. Siri is the S part of the Iphone 4. She is the voice that says, “How can I help you?” And you give her something to do, and she does it. Almost.

I have asked her to call and text people for me. She willingly does. I asked her to find out how old Zac Efron was. Don’t judge. I had friends that wanted to know. She responded that he was 24 years, 6 months, and 6 days old. No kidding…

…in about 15 seconds.

I asked her to find the nearest Smokey Bones restaurant and she not only found it, but she called them for me. Too bad she also couldn’t walk in and pick up my order. Bummer.

Siri and her technology truly is amazing. I say thank you and she says you are most certainly welcome. Seriously.

So, why am I not always as mesmerized with my God who is AMAZING? Am I too familiar with His greatness? Are there times I no longer in awe of Him?

“The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.” Psalm 65:8

“Generation after generation stands in awe of your work; Your beauty and splendor have everyone talking; each one tells stories of your mighty acts. Your marvelous doings are headline news; I compose songs on your wonders. I could write a book full of the details of your greatness.” Psalm 145:4 – 6

Lord, forgive us when we are so easily distracted by the things of this world and we forget to stand in AWE of you.
