…Relax. God is in Control

On Friday mornings I have a standing appointment with my mentor, coach, prayer partner, encourager, cheerleader, teacher, truth-teller.  She’s all of these things to me…

…and more.

I do my best to keep our “date” — but sometimes I travel, or volunteer at my kids’ school, or something comes up that I cannot schedule for a different time.  Most often we meet and I’m always blessed by our time together.

This last week I shared with her some fears I had, the anxiety I was feeling about a future event.  I rambled on about the BIG details, the small details.  I blurted out my many questions, the confusion I was feeling.  I talked about how I wanted to quit and not. do. this. anymore.  I told her I had had it out with God and that I gave Him a piece of my mind the other day when I was driving down the road.  I cried because I was weary…

…and tired and alone and scared.

Then, as she always does, she spoke Truth.  She said things to me like:

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you. {Deuteronomy 31:8}

God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. {2 Timothy 1:7}

It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. {2 Samuel 22:33}

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. {Galatians 6:9}

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you. {James 4:7-8}

Am I trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. {Galatians 1:10}

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. {Isaiah 41:10}

Then, after we were done talking, praying, and laughing she went out to her car and grabbed this little 1 inch by 1 inch piece of stone that had these words printed on it:

…relax…God is in control

She keeps this on the dashboard in her car so she can see it often, to remind herself Who is in command.  In charge.  Who’s direction to follow.  Who has jurisdiction in our lives.

As always, I leave my appointment feeling refreshed and uplifted.  I leave feeling loved and empowered.  I leave with a “cup over-flowing” eager to pour into my husband, children, and life.  I leave with a renewed willingness to persevere and say YES. to God.

Question:  How do you keep your “cup” full – to overflowing so what you’re giving away doesn’t drain you dry?  Share your comment by clicking here.

    Mornin’ Teri,
    I’m catching up on your blog this mornin’ and I so appreciate your vulnerability and honesty. I can see so clearly this vision of a strong woman standing up before a crowd proclaiming God’s truth… because she has first claimed it for herself. You continue to do the hard self work of saying “yes” to God’s love and refining process sister! I’m praying for you and everything you touch… Thanks so much for sharing with us! ~ Blessings out, Amy
