Oswald Chambers writes this insightful description of faith based on Hebrews 11:8 “He [Abraham] went out, not knowing where he was going.”…
“Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One Who is leading. It is a life of faith, not of intellect and reason, but a life of knowing Who makes us ‘go.’” — Oswald Chambers
Isn’t it beautiful?
I can’t help my smile as I reread it several times in my mind and even out loud. I determine quickly that in relation to Abraham it really fits quite perfectly. As that specific thought comes to completion in my mind I sense God very clearly speak to my heart… “try it on my child, let’s see how Abraham’s faith fits on you.”
As I try it on for size I feel a burning conviction well up within my heart and I whisper the confession that…
…“no” it doesn’t always fit quite right.
Fear has us wanting to know where were headed and love of self has us going anywhere but to God for our assurance and security.
We are wise to live with caution in this world. It boldly offers us just the quick assurance we “think” we need. Left to our flesh we have no trouble taking that quick assurance and overlooking the fact that worldly assurance is always a risk and never a guarantee.
However, faith in God is always something we can count on. Hebrews 11: 1 says “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.”
As I reflect on His word, I also pray…“Lord I am sure that You are Who You say You are and I am certain that You will fulfill what You promise! Help me to know this truth all of the time so that my faith may increase.”
So, God will likely have this talk with me again, but for now in this moment I am going to wear Abraham’s faith and believe it for myself…
Heidi never knows where she is being led,
but she loves and knows the One Who is leading.
She lives a life of faith, not of intellect and reason,
but a life of knowing Who makes her “go.”
Go ahead try it on for yourself. Does it fit?
