When I found this quote I was in the middle of a raging, internal battle. After years of people-pleasing and doing what I thought I was supposed to do, I suddenly found myself tired, confused, unfulfilled, without direction, and distant from God. Upon the realization that I had lived a large part of my life trying to be who I thought people wanted me to be and trying to be perfect, I was forced to see me behind the masks.
But guess what? Me behind the masks wasn’t at all what I expected.
True beauty is not realized in attaining perfection but in discovering the person created by a perfect God.
If we are busy trying to be perfect or trying to please others at the expense of pleasing God, we are not living the abundant life He has provided. We cannot discover the gifts and talents placed within us by the very hands of God Himself.
Sometimes it’s hard to see our captivity until we know freedom.
It’s okay for things to not always be okay. It’s okay to say no, set boundaries. It’s okay to fail, to mess up, to be imperfect.
…God meets us in all those messy places.
And through those messy, broken, imperfect places, He molds us and shapes us and takes great care as we transform from a lumpy pile of clay into that vessel created for His glory.
The real you is far from perfection.
But God in you is perfect.
And His plans are far greater than any plans you or anyone else has for your life.
Just give up…
…on being perfect, that is.
And begin the work of becoming yourself…the beautiful “you” God created.
Sometimes it can be really hard.
But it’s so amazing.“The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself.” Anna Quindlen
